On this episode of the MMA Storytime Podcast, Mikey “Rolls” Gonzalez, a Bay Area mixed martial artist who deserves a lot more global recognition, joined the show to discuss the cancellation of his upcoming bout at Bellator 242, his fighting style, mindset, and more.
Gonzalez (7-1) was scheduled to meet Art Hernandez in his own backyard, when Bellator planned on bringing an event to the SAP Center on May 9, 2020; however, the worldwide pandemic slammed his opportunity shut, as well as the many other local talents out of Northern California who were also supposed to be featured on the card. Although Gonzalez is a humble, lifelong martial artist, his kind nature shouldn’t overshadow his killer instincts, which are violently displayed while under bright lights. During these trying times, Gonzalez remains positive, and he’s eagerly awaiting the reopening of the state so he can close himself into a cage and continue the pursuit of his dreams.

MMA Storytime is incredibly excited to acquire, and announce, Mitraspec LLC as a sponsor of the site.
In MMA Storytime’s attempt to deliver a healthy dose of mixed martial arts—by way of stories, poems, activities, articles, podcasts, and memes—it made sense to couple with a company, such as Mitraspec, focused on nourishing the bodies of top-notch fighters, fitness experts, as well as weekend warriors, with the purest blends of Kratom and other high-quality supplements.
Kratom is a tropical evergreen tree in the coffee family. For hundreds of years, Kratom has been used medicinally as a mild stimulant, pain reliever, and a means to wean off of opioids. The Kratom available at Mitraspec is sold in either a powder form, which can be used to make a tea, or as capsules.
Along with sponsoring MMA Storytime, Mitraspec supports the MMA community—from amateurs rising the ranks to competitors at the highest levels—along with numerous others in the sports world, and many will be highlighted on future episodes of the MMA Storytime Podcast.
Of course, anyone can visit mitraspec.com and purchase their products, but all listeners of the MMA Storytime Podcast will have an opportunity to win a sample by simply participating in the show when it streams live on Facebook. Audience members who add to the conversation in the comments section will be entered for a chance to pick up free merchandise from Mitraspec—seems easy enough.

Gabriel Freyre has become a familiar face on the MMA Storytime Podcast, much like he plans to do within the MMA world.
Although Freyre’s professional debut last month didn’t go as expected, his performance, even in defeat, highlighted his power and potential in the sport.
If you fall off the horse, you’ve got to dust yourself off and get right back in the saddle, and Freyre mirrored this same mindset throughout the conversation. Of course, listeners could sense his dissatisfaction with the loss at HR MMA 114, but his passion for success was pixelated for all who watched the live stream on MMA Storytime’s Facebook page or after the fact on the YouTube channel.
Distancing himself from the pain that the hurt business can, and often does, offer, Freyre has decided to make the move toward the featherweight division—a more ideal weight class for his frame—and he’ll have an opportunity to assess his improvements next month, which will be a showcase before all his hometown friends and family in Tampa Bay, Florida.

Maritza Sanchez will, once again, be stepping into the Combate Americas cage—also known as “La Jaula”—and she returned to the MMA Storytime Podcast to preview what fans can expect on February 28, 2020.
In Sanchez’s pro debut, she, unfortunately, fell a bit short. Between then and her upcoming sophomore showcase, the newly minted professional secured a victory at Fight 2 Win’s grappling competition, attempting to take her opponent’s arm home as a souvenir.
With her confidence at an all time high, Sanchez, as outlined throughout the podcast, has invested countless hours fine-tuning her skillset for her upcoming foe, Lucero Acosta. Wins in a sport as unpredictable as MMA are nearly impossible to promise, but every trip this young bantamweight makes to the cage—even dating back to her days as an amateur—her aggressive offense speaks louder than any words.
