Dozer had felt every nook and cranny of Interstate 80 after only a couple hours into the drive from Santa Ana in Southern California to Prairie Creek, a coastal city about an hour from Oregon’s border .
“With all the money from your promotion,” Dozer began, “you could have upgraded to a moving truck that wasn’t such a dump.”
Dad ignored him; he was too busy checking off the exits passed like items from a to-do list.
The meditative rhythm of loose metal beneath their feet was interrupted by Mom, “I need to use the restroom at the next exit.”
