Flash Fiction: No Pain, No Gain

The open sky stretched from sand to horizon and the riders advanced on the oasis. Biking sixty-plus miles with the summer sun scorching their backs, and some seeing mirages, the passing of Central Avenue meant heavy cardio day was nearly done. 

Everyone on the team proclaimed a love for the fight game, yet several avoided cardio day. Those who’d burn out their lungs making excuses were the same individuals who griped about never getting fights. Coach wasn’t about to get them an opportunity.

“No pain, no gain,” Coach screamed as the final few riders converged on the gym’s doors.
