Gabriel always said he was willing to go out on his shield—every MMA fighter said that—but his words became action when a combination ended with a shin across the chin, stiffening his body before dropping to the canvas.
A chatter of concern circled the arena when several minutes passed without movement. Everyone was silenced as news quickly spread that Gabriel died on the way to the hospital.
Leading into Gabriel’s memorial service, those in his hometown placed pink bows on their fences because he was known for donating the money raised from ticket sales to breast cancer research.
