Why do you keep this picture of a rundown barn in the gym?” Andrew asked coach Ray.
“That’s where all this began, several decades ago.”
Coach Ray recalled the area’s toughest hombres would meet every Saturday inside the barn to cook up a batch of violence. When the city’s officials discovered what was going on, they responded, cutting the barn’s power.
He chuckled, “No lights, no fights.”
Several years later, one of the barnyard brawlers was elected to the city council, and he legalized fighting.
“MMA was born,” chirped Coach Ray. “And the sport has been busy growing ever since.”
