“You’ve got to have nerves of steel,” Ray’s coach repeated in the dressing room, trying to ease his fighter’s obvious angst about his debut.
Even though Ray was well-aware that his coach had been there and done that, in the moment, he didn’t think anyone could understand the fear circulating his psyche. Training and preparations had hardened his exterior, but his insides felt loose and uncertain.
Ray walked into the cage and heard it lock behind him.
Coach said through the fence, “Win or lose, you chose fight over flight, which is the entire name of this game.”
