Flash Fiction: Don’t Bring Emotion Into the Cage

Mike Massey’s teeth would’ve turned to dust if not for his mouthguard; he was green with envy that Pat Stallworth held the belt, and he only saw red when the bell rang. 

“Don’t fight emotionally,” his corner repeated, though nothing entered the contender’s tunnel vision.

A minute into the fight, Stallworth grabbed hold of Massey and slammed him on his head, knocking him out instantly.

When Massey finally placed his rump on a stool, his senses slowly reemerged. He offered the champ a thumbs up while receiving medical attention, understanding this was just another one of life’s hard learned lessons.
