Flash Fiction: An Anniversary Fight

“I think you’ll like what I planned for our anniversary.”

Matt’s wife had mentioned, once in passing, that they should attend an MMA event together while he was hypnotized by his weekend dose of face-punching.

She imagined they were driving to shine up her ears with some gemstones, or her favorite store for the satin dress she showed him online. Next thing she knows, they were pulling into the Riverside Arena with a crowd of MMA fans waiting for the doors to open.

Matt turned to his wife, “Are you over the moon excited?”

“I’m barely over the horizon.”
